The SBDC Project in Chile is funded by the Embassy of the United States in Santiago, Chile, and is executed by the University of Texas at San Antonio in partnership with SERCOTEC, the Chilean Technical Assistance Agency of the Ministry of Economy. The project started in October 2014 with the SBDC Certificate Training that aims to transferring the SBDC methodology and guiding professionals through the development of the operational and strategic plans of their future centers. Previous to this UTSA hosted a visit from SERCOTEC and the Ministry of Economy to learn first hand about the day to day operations of the SBDCs as well as led a visit to Washington DC so that they would learn about the structure, legal framework and supervision of an SBDC Network. Moreover, UTSA is assisting the government in successfully adapting and adopting the model to the local context. In 2015 the first 33 Centers will be launched through Chile, with the goal of 50 Centers by 2017.
